Lead Network Engineer

The Lead Network Engineering position involves planning, designing, and engineering of Metro-Optical transport and Regional Network. This position will perform equipment engineering, design, and proper documentation for all equipment deployment procedures. The Lead Network Engineer is responsible for the development and preparation of complex network designs & engineering packages, at a rapid pace with all required technical documentation. This position will also require direct communication and coaching of their fellow network engineering peers, different departments within the company and customer to ensure that the proposed network design can be implemented and meet the customer's requirement in a cost effective manner. Although the candidate will perform in a team-based environment, business needs and available resources will require a person who is self-motivated, focused on attention to detail, and able to self-manage projects with an outstanding professional attitude. This person will be the technical lead to the networking engineering & capacity planning teams. Responsible for designing regional & metro DWDM, SONET, Layer II and MPLS/VPLS network, and also engineering and designing network design packages, node build-outs and equipment installations. Prepares engineering cost and planning estimates & projections for large scale projects. Collaborates with other members of the technical operations team on planning and design standards existing/new networks in multiple markets. Collaborates with sales engineering on proposed customer network design and RFP's and insure that the proposed design will meet the customer's requirement in a cost effective manner. There will be extensive interaction with equipment suppliers and bandwidth carriers, industry research departments, as well as other internal departments and partners. Perform other duties and participates in special projects as assigned. o BS Degree - Engineering or Computer Science. Masters preferred o 5-7 + Years of Telecommunication experience o Must have experience with Metro DWDM, SONET, Layer II and MPLS/VPLS network o Ability to specify and design Network Transport composed of the following technologies - Wave Division, SONET and L2 & L3 / Ethernet & IP architectures o Knowledge of NSN/Atrica, Cisco 15454 DWDM MSTP/MSPP, Cisco 15600, Cisco Catalyst Switches, and Nortel 5200 o Strong problem-solving skills o Must be a self-starter with the ability to multitask within their area of responsibility and other areas o Must have strong troubleshooting and leadership skills o Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Streets & Trips, Netcracker, Visio & various Operational Support Systems for internal and external network, circuit, equipment schematics and presentations o In depth navigational, provisioning, & troubleshooting capabilities in currently supported EMS applications (Cisco CTC/CTM, Nortel OMSM, Tellabs EMSClient, Atrica-Aspen) o Must have familiarity with Network Management/DCN o Strong verbal & written communication skills are necessary o Excellent documentation skills are necessary We are an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Vet and maintain a drug-free and smoke-free workplace. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
